I knew I had to have a netbook from the first second I laid eyes on one. Sure, it looks a little dorky walking around with a mini computer, but for a programmer like me, it is a great tool to keep with me at all times. So, I spent the last couple of months researching which netbook to purchase and came up with a list of my favorite netbooks under $500.

After reading through about a million forums and learning that it boasts a 9.5 hour battery life, I ended up purchasing this netbook and then upgrading to 2 Gigs of RAM. So far, I'm loving it. Retails for about $390.

How do you upgrade to the 2 gig?  Can I do that with my acer?

I had never heard of MSI until I started researching netbooks. After building some incredible little computers, they are quickly becoming a household name. Retails for about $380.

Walmart started carrying these a while ago, which has made the AOA150 series very popular. Retails for about $320.

I have one...used probably 50 times in 6 months and have had all sorts of problems with it...  And its slow!

I almost purchased this netbook after playing with it at Best Buy. The screen resolution is beautiful and it's case design is really cool. The reason I decided against it in the end was the short battery life. Retails for about $400.
