Here are some ideas for making your heart and cardiovascular system healthier and your life better.

I just got done reading an excellent book and resource called The Cure For Heart Disease by Dr. Dwight Lundell and Tood Nordstrom. I'm not going to give you a book report...instead I'm going to suggest some of the ideas that were proposed in the book.

The main cause of heart disease is NOT cholesterol or fat or high blood pressure...it is INFLAMMATION through poor diet, lack of exercise and stress. Inflammation of the body is exactly what you think it is - redness, soreness and heat. Inflammation over time leads to scarring in your arteries, which eventually leads to rupture and a heart attack if not stopped. Snuffing out inflammation is the key to curing heart disease.

In lieu or addition to statins or prescription drugs - try these methods to make yourself as healthy as possible!

**This is not meant to be taken as medical advice. I am not a physician - I only watch Grey's Anatomy. These ideas are here for your consideration...I would recommend doing more research on your own. Please consult your physician with any questions, concerns, etc you may have.

Omege 3 essential free fatty acids can be found in fish (salmon, mackeral and trout are good sources) or taken through supplements. The best Omega 3 supplements contain a combined 500mg of EPA and DHA. Omega 3 is good for increasing brain health, cell wall health, lower cytokines and reducing inflammation.

Reduce Trans Fat

Already there is a world wide awareness of reducing or eliminating trans fats. Trans fats are processed with heat and hydrogen which changes their shape and normal function. They are found in hydrogenated vegetable oil, margarine, fried foods, cookies, crackers, chips, etc. Trans fat has been associated with an increased risk of heart attack, skin allergies, Alzheimer's and diabetes.

A high blood pressure makes arteries stiff and increases the chances of heart disease. Avoiding excessive salt intake and exercise to lose weight can be more effective than medication in reducing blood pressure.
