The Rock of Aphrodite

According to Greek legends the Titan Cronus mutilated his father Uranus and threw his genitals into the sea, the result of which gave birth to the 'foam-risen' goddess Aphrodite. The Petra tou Romiou is supposedly the spot where the goddess of love rose from the sea.

The ancient city of Kourion

Having endured from antiquity until the early Middle Ages, Kourion was supposedly founded by the Argives and was eventually abandoned in the 4th Century after a number of strong earthquakes struck the city. With a series of well preserved structures and some fantastic Roman Mosaics, Kourion is one of the top destinations to visit in all of Cyprus.

Tomb of the Kings

Situated 2km north west of the city of Paphos lays the sprawling necropolis known as the Tomb of the Kings. Established in the 4th Century BC, the site was the final resting place for a number of importnant Paphitic aristocrats. The site contains a number of individual complexes and chambers, adorned with Doric columns and frescoes.

Kolossi Castle

The crusader stronghold of Kolossi was built originally by the Frankish military in 1210. The castle was then given to the Knights of the Order of St John of Jerusalem and was rebuilt into the structure we see today in 1454.

The church of Our Lady of the Pea

Located near the village of Lagoudera, Panayia tou Araka, otherwise known as the church of Our Lady of the Pea, is one of ten painted churches on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The beautiful and intricate frescoes date back to the 12th Century, visitors are reminded that photography is not allowed within the building.
