Keilidh, Edinburgh
Added by travelwyse1
|
The Keilidh in Edinburgh is the biggest outdoor Ceilidh in the world. A Ceilidh is a traditional Gaelic get-together with folk music and organised dances and lots of whiskey! This one is held outside in Edinburgh over New Year so try booking yourself one of the many cheap hotels in the centre of town in case you get a bit chilly! If you get tickets for this you get free entry to the street party too.

A Cabin, middle of nowhere
Added by travelwyse1
|
Wouldn't you just love to forget it's New Year altogether and head to a cabin in the middle of nowhere? We definitely would. Laying on a woollen blanket next to a log fire, roasting marshmallows and sipping on hot cocoa, yes please! Beats standing out in the cold watching the fireworks any day!

On a beach, any beach, Australia
Added by travelwyse1
|
It's bad enough that the Australians get to celebrate Christmas in the sunshine. It's worse knowing that they can watch a wonderful firework display on New Year in the warm of the Australian summer. Ideally I'd like to be on a beach near the Sydney Harbour Bridge to see one of the most celebrated firework displays in the world.

Southern Alps, New Zealand
Added by travelwyse1

Another place where you can celebrate in the warm of summer, New Zealand is on par with Australia. We think a fabulous alternative New Year celebration idea would be to trek to the Southern Alps and watch the stars at New Year. Simple and romantic.

Gypsy Hotel, London

The sort of night you'd go to if you had just 12 hours to live: Gypsy Hotel presents a bourbon-soaked sleazefest filled with Balkan boogie bands, burlesque, swing, magicians and vaudeville sideshows with a heaving, sweaty dancefloor in this little-known and intimate venue in N16

A house party is cheap, there are no expectations and it means you're guaranteed to be with friends and not a bunch on strangers.

Berlin, Germany

Why not bring in the New Year in a local bar in Berlin, with a stein of lovely German beer. If you're lucky you'll be able to sing along with the locals and hopefully get invited to a German New Year after-party!
