Now you can rank the best songs from the best duo in Rock history!!
Go ahead, tap your foot... I did!!
I have been an in the closet Hall and Oates Fan for some time and this is my coming out party.
DON'T JUDGE ME!! DARYL AND JOHN RULE!!
Maybe their best song!!
The song was rumored to be about the then-scandalous newspaper heiress Patty Hearst. In fact, the title character in the song is based on a spoiled heir to a fast-food chain who was an ex-boyfriend of Daryl Hall's girlfriend, Sara Allen. "But you can't write, 'You're a rich boy' in a song, so I changed it to a girl," Hall told Rolling Stone.
Several years later, Hall read an interview with David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam killer, in which Berkowitz claimed that "Rich Girl" had motivated him to murder (though interestingly, the song was not released until after the Son of Sam murders had already begun, casting doubts on that suggestion). Hall & Oates later reflected this disturbing fact in the lyrics of the song "Diddy Doo Wop (I Hear Voices)" on the album Voices.
Another classic list, Nate! My dad made me sing the chorus to this song when I was a wee lad...still my favorite Hall and Oates tune! John's 'stache is intimidating as hell!
This song battled for six weeks with Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney's "Say, Say, Say" for number one on the box office charts. Both songs repeat the lyrics, "Say Say Say."
I'm 2 weeks late with this addition, but it just popped into my head. This tune showcases H&O's spelling abilities. Plus, if you've ever dreamed of seeing John do the sidestroke on a cloud, then my friend, you're in luck (4:48).
"What I want you got and it might be hard to handle.... but like a flame that burns the candle, the candle feeds the flame."
These guys are nothing short of poetic!!
